PAMELA J. CARTY

Pamela is a fierce advocate dedicated to the compassionate representation of people accused of crimes.  Pamela uses her excellent legal training, her background as a substance use counselor, and her strong relationships with all parties to get the best results for clients.

Pamela grew up in the small village of Euxton, in the North West of England.  While visiting the United States, she met her future husband, and eventually moved to Arizona.  Her husband, Sam, is a former United States Air Force Officer, which gives Pamela unique knowledge into how criminal charges can affect those in the military..

After graduating from the University of Arizona with a Psychology degree, Pamela began working at the La Frontera Center in Tucson.   As an adult recovery facilitator, Pamela worked one-on-one with individual clients to develop treatment plans to address serious mental illness and also supervised a team of treatment providers.  In 2010, Pamela and Sam moved to Colorado, where Pamela continued her work with Arapahoe House.  There, as a clinical case manager, Pamela designed treatment programs and worked with clients facing substance abuse, as well as mental health, issues.  These experiences gave Pamela a deep understanding of the serious issues that homelessness, addiction, untreated mental illness, and poverty can cause in a person’s life, including how these issues intersect with the criminal justice system.

Pamela decided to use this understanding to go to law school and help bring the perspective of a treatment provider into the courtroom.  Pamela graduated from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law in 2016.  Throughout law school, Pamela interned with the Colorado State Public Defender and knew that criminal defense work was her calling..

Pamela began her work as a Deputy Public Defender in 2016 in the Arapahoe Trial Office.  There, Pamela handled thousands of misdemeanor and felony cases, and took dozens of cases to trial.  Pamela fostered healthy working relationships with the bench and the prosecutors and frequently achieved exceptional outcomes for her clients.  Pamela used her background to help clients not only achieve their goal in their criminal case, but to design creative programs to help them beyond the courtroom.  Pamela also practiced in the Adams County Trial Office from 2020-2021.

In 2021, Pamela decided to join Power Law as a partner to continue her passion for criminal defense work in a different context.  Pamela is committed to continuing to work for indigent clients and to providing affordable legal services, while also continuing to represent the whole client and to address each person’s specific and important goals.
